Description
American Idiot is a Tony Award-winning musical that premiered in 2011 and is based on Green Day's hit album of the same name. The story follows three best friends, Johnny, Will, and Tunny, as they struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world. The friends share a dream of leaving their suburban lives behind for the city, but their paths diverge when one stays home, another joins the army, and the third turns to drugs. The musical features songs from the album, as well as some material that didn't make it and a few numbers from Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown. The songs range from humorous to angry and heart-wrenching, and the story is punctuated by disillusionment. Some say that fans of Green Day, metal, or punk will enjoy the show, which is essentially two hours of non-stop rock music with an intermission.
