ShowA Gilbert & Sullivan Christmas Carol
CompanyThe Gilbert and Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island
NotesPerformances are December 13th, 14th, 15th, 20th, 21st, 22nd. There are 31 parts. While they may be cast to 31 individuals, in practice, we expect some people to play more than one part, and all except Scrooge will sing on the five or six chorus numbers. Adult Auditions will be held on Tuesday, September 17th, from 7:30pm-10pm. Children's Auditions will be held Thursday, September 19, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. (7:30-8:00 for parents, 8-10 for children)
InstructionsPlease prepare a song in English. (In the style of Gilbert & Sullivan encouraged.) Please bring sheet music for your song. You may also be asked to read a short passage of dialogue in an individual or group scene following the music portion of the audition. Children will be asked to read a short passage of dialogue and to sing one verse of a song of their choosing, and to participate in a couple of group activities. (Please bring sheet music for the song.)
Rehearsal DatesTuesdays & Thursdays September 10th through till December 13th first performance. There will be three rehearsals at the beginning and three or four at the end that involve everyone. Thus, playing two 10-rehearsal characters would likely involve a total of 13 rehearsals, not 20.
Show InfoA Gilbert & Sullivan Christmas Carol’ is an adaptation of the classic Dicken’s tale set to the incomparable music of Gilbert & Sullivan with words by Gayden Wren. First performed in 1994, by our own GaSLOCoLI, it has been performed worldwide and has even made its way as far as Off-Broadway. It is a festive treat for the senses and hopes to bring the warmth of the season to the hearts of all, even the tiniest amongst us.
