Roles
Role | M/F | Age | Description | Abby Brewster: | 0 | THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST | Martha Brewster: | 0 | THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST | Mortimer Brewster: | M/F | 20-40 | A theater critic who is not easily open to opinions separate from his own. A very emotional man who can go from calm to angry to terrified at the drop of a hat. Loves his aunts and his brother, but is terrified that he will eventually turn out just as crazy as them. Loves Elaine, but is desperate to keep her from finding out the truth to the point where Mortimer repeatedly fails to consider her feelings. This character will share a kiss with Elaine, and be tied up and gagged for around 5 to 7 minutes of a scene in Act Two. | Jonathan Brewster: | M/F | 20-50 | The main antagonist of the play. Jonathan has a fascination with pain and death that he has held since he was just a child. He is responsible for the deaths of 13 people and is very prone to threats or acts of violence if things don't go his way or he is backed into a corner. He also has facial scars due to a botched surgery from his accomplice, which he is extremely sensitive about and will fly into a rage about. This character will be required to restrain Elaine, tie up Mortimer, climb through a window, and be involved in a small fight scene in Act Two that will culminate in him simulating being knocked unconscious. | Teddy Brewster: | M/F | 20-50 | A very confident and proud person who would probably get along with everyone if not for being certifiably insane to the point of thinking that he's Theodore Roosevelt. He is steadfast committed to being Roosevelt, despite knowing things that have supposedly not even happened in his life as Roosevelt yet. This character will simulate charging quite a bit and will be required to carry a simulated body prop. | Elaine Harper: | M/F | 20-30 | Mortimer's fiancee. A woman who is smarter and more confident than most women her age, she loves Mortimer and his aunts, but is repeatedly kept out of the loop and thrown out by Mortimer to keep her safe. Just as stubborn as Mortimer is (to a point where it nearly gets her killed at one point by Jonathan). This character will share a kiss with Mortimer and be at one point physically restrained by Jonathan. | Dr. Herman Einstein: | M/F | 20-60 | Jonathan's (mostly) unwilling accomplice. An easily excited person who claims to be a doctor. An unlicensed plastic surgeon as well as a heavy drinker, Einstein has helped Jonathan escape the law thanks to multiple facial reconstructions, the latest of which was botched thanks to Einstein's intoxication. This character will be required to climb through a window, carry a body prop, and fall over into a window seat. German accent required. | Officer O'Hara: | M/F | 18-30 | The new officer on the beat. Very easily distracted from the job, which he doesn't take seriously due to his belief that the play he's working on will be a ticket to success. An unintentionally insensitive moron who has fabricated nearly everything about his life story/play. Practically idolizes Mortimer despite the feeling clearly not being mutual. This character will be involved in a small fight scene in Act Two, where he will fall on his face. | Officer Klein: | M/F | 30-50 | Not the most competent or smartest of cops, though not to the extent of O'Hara. A good person at heart, but a glory hound as well as something of a smart aleck and gossipy hen. Klein's mouth almost results in him getting killed by Jonathan in the second act. This character will be involved in a small fight scene in Act Two. | Officer Brophy: | M/F | 30-60 | Far more competent than either O'Hara or Klein, and has probably known the Brewsters longer than any living soul outside of their family. Brophy is aware of when it's ok, necessary, or not a good idea to be talking. Irish accent not required, but welcomed. This character will be involved in a small fight scene in Act Two. | Lieutenant Rooney: | M/F | 30-70 | A very short tempered lieutenant. He has a very low tolerance for incompetence and usually expresses anger through a mixture of sarcastic remarks and yelling. This character only appears in Act 2. | Mr. Witherspoon: | M/F | 50-70 | The owner of the Happy Dale Sanitarium. He cares for all of his patients, but is strictly adherent to his establishment's rules, and keeps his distance from them. Has no family, and may be Abby and Martha's last or latest victim. This character only appears in Act 2. | Reverend Harper: | M/F | 50-70 | Elaine's father. He is a kind person who loves Elaine and is very fond of the Brewster sisters, but disapproves of Mortimer's status as a theater critic, due to Harper disapproving of theater itself. This character only appears in Act 1. | Gibbs: | M/F | 18-70 | A bitter person who comes to the Brewster house to rent a room. He has no family and doesn't seem to like almost anything. He is almost poisoned by the Brewster's before he is scared away by Mortimer. This character only appears in Act 1. |
