| Show Info | Seussical is a whimsical musical mash-up weaving together the most famous stories and characters of Dr. Seuss. The narrative primarily follows Horton the Elephant as he protects a speck of dust containing the tiny planet of Whoville, while simultaneously guarding an abandoned egg, left behind by Mayzie La Bird. Guided by the fun, mischievous Cat in the Hat, Seussical explores themes of loyalty, friendship, and the power of imagination. Centered around the core Seuss message: "A person's a person, no matter how small." |

Roles
| Role | M/F | Age | Description | The Cat in the Hat | M/F | 20-40 | The show’s narrator/emcee. The Cat is the essence of kindhearted mischief, fun, and imagination. The Cat stirs things up, causes some trouble, but always sets things right again. | JoJo | M/F | 10-14 | A young boy with a wild imagination and a knack for thinking outside the box, JoJo is a "Thinker." While he may be a bit awkward, a bit of a loner, or simply a rambunctious kid, his unique perspective often leads him into constant trouble. However, in the end, his "Thinks" prove to be the key to saving his planet. | Horton the Elephant | M | 20-30 | Gentle, big hearted, appealing, Horton is very imaginative and believes in the world's goodness. He is responsible and always tries to do the right thing for his friends. | Gertrude McFuzz | F | 20-30 | Gertrude is a bird. Very selfconscious, shy, naive at times, neurotic, and nervous at first, but always a voice of reason. She grows into a kind and caring protector. She is in love with Horton and does what she can to get his attention, including foolishly growing an enormous feathered tail. | Mayzie La Bird | F | 20-40 | Selfcentered, sultry, selfish and vain. Mayzie will never admit to her own flaws. She manipulates anyone she can (especially Horton) into doing what she wants. | Mr. & Mrs. Mayor | M/F | 30-50 | The Mayor of Whoville and his wife strive to raise their son, JoJo, amidst the challenges of their world. Despite occasional exasperation with JoJo, their love for him remains unwavering, and they consistently strive to make the right choices. | Sour Kangaroo | F | 20-50 | A citizen of the Jungle of Nool. She isn't really sour at all: she's just got a lot of attitude. She's loud, brassy, soulful, and a lot of fun. She is the main antagonist and the cause of all Horton's trouble. (Puppetry skills are a plus) | The Wickersham Brothers | M | 16-35 | Three monkey brothers and citizens of the Jungle of Nool. These are not bad guys! They're simply a lot like kids who tease, play pranks, and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at others' expense. (Looking for actors with strong vocal skills who are athletic with strong dance or movement skills) | Bird Girls | F | 16-35 | Three sassy birds and citizens of the Jungle of Nool. Beautiful and Fun, they are the popular girls --a clique of pretty, self-centered ""back up birds"" who do whatever Mayzie does."" They often act as storytellers, picking up where The Cat left off. (Looking for actresses who can hold tight 3 part harmony with strong dance or movement skills) |
