Show Info | In a quiet house in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia live a stagnant life filled with regret and routine. Their peaceful if dull existence is disrupted when their glamorous, movie-star sister Masha arrives unexpectedly with her much younger boyfriend, Spike. Masha announces plans to sell the family home, causing tension among the siblings. Over the course of the weekend, old resentments surface, relationships are tested, and everyone confronts their fears about aging, purpose, and family. Along the way, they are joined by the psychic cleaning lady Cassandra, who issues hilarious and ominous warnings, and Nina, a sweet and hopeful young neighbor who inspires Vanya to reflect on the past and present. The play is a funny, poignant exploration of family dynamics, change, and the struggle to find meaning in modern life. |

Roles
Role | M/F | Age | Description | Vanya | M | 50-60 | (late 50-60s) Personality: Intellectual, dry-witted, melancholic, and repressed. Background: Lives in the family home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with his adopted sister Sonia. He gave up his own life ambitions to care for their aging parents. Role: Represents a kind of generational disillusionment. He's a Chekhovian figure who longs for meaning in a world that seems to be slipping away. | Masha | F | 36-50 | (40-50s) Personality: Glamorous, narcissistic, insecure, and theatrical. Background: A successful actress who has been supporting the household financially. She swoops in with dramatic flair and younger boyfriend Spike in tow. Role: The "star" who is losing her shine, clinging to youth and celebrity. She feels superior but is threatened by aging and irrelevance. | Spike | M | 20-30 | (20-30s) Personality: Attractive, dim-witted, energetic, and self-absorbed. A wannabe actor. Background: Masha's much younger boyfriend. He's often shirtless and flirts with everyone, unaware (or indifferent) to the tension he causes. Role: A comedic foil-youthful and shallow, in contrast with the older characters' depth and nostalgia. | Nina | F | 20-30 | (20s) Personality: Sweet, earnest, starstruck, and idealistic. Background: A neighbor and aspiring actress. Her innocence and admiration of the older characters (especially Vanya) bring out their softer sides. Role: Symbolizes youthful hope and artistic idealism, somewhat of a muse figure—like Nina in Chekhov's The Seagull. | Cassandra | F | Personality: Wild, unpredictable, loud, and mystical. Background: The cleaning woman who believes she has psychic powers. She often delivers cryptic warnings and visions in dramatic outbursts. Role: A comedic twist on the Greek prophetess. She's absurd yet oddly insightful, injecting surreal energy into the play. |
