Roles
Role | M/F | Age | Description | CURLY | M | 0+ | The young cowman in love with Laurey. His heart is in the right place and he is strong in facing up to Jud. Baritone with F#. | LAUREY | F | 0+ | Our heroine. She is confused about Curly and seems always to be waiting for him to make the first move; she is too innocent to see that her acceptance of Jud's invitation will mean trouble. Soprano with A. | AUNT ELLER | F | 0+ | A middle-aged down-to-earth 'mother to everyone'. She is Laurey's aunt and confidante, and has a very friendly personality. Mezzo-soprano. | WILL PARKER | M | 0+ | A hapless young cowman who is very much in love with Annie. He has a pleasant happy-go-lucky disposition, but needs to assert himself strongly to get her full attention. Tenor with F. | ADO ANNIE | F | 0+ | A flirtatious girl who cannot resist any man, particularly if a wedding ring is in prospect. Belter with E. | JUD FRY | M | 0+ | The hired hand on Laurey's farm. Sullen, mysterious and dangerous. Nobody likes him and he lives a lonely depressive existence in the smokehouse, dreaming broodily of real women, not the pin-ups on the walls. Bass up to C#. | ANDREW CARNES | M | 0+ | Over protective father of Ado Annie; he thinks Will Parker is “no good” and defends the honor of his daughter with an ever-present shotgun. Baritone with F. | ALI HAKIM | M | 0+ | A Persian peddler and a shrewd salesman. A great one for the girls, but not too adept at avoiding shotguns! Baritenor with F#. | GERTIE | F | 0+ | Another flirt whose presence is always announced by her ear-piercing laugh. Like Annie, she just wants to get married to someone. | IKE SKIDMORE | M | 0+ | A ranch-house cowman. Tenor with F. | SLIM, FRED, MIKE, JOE, TOM, JESS, CHALMERS, FRED | M | 0+ | Farmers and Cowhands who are friends of Curly and Will (part of the ensemble). Some soloists. | CORD ELAM | M | 0+ | Federal Marshall in town and oversees legal trial of Curly after the stabbing. | ELLEN, KATE, VIRGINIA, VIVIAN, SYLVIE, AGGIE, ARMINA | F | 0+ | A group of fun-loving farmer's daughters who form the ensemble at the Box Social and the ballet at the end of Act One. | DREAM CURLY & DREAM LAUREY | M/F | 0+ | Dancing counterparts of the two leading characters in the dream ballet; double in other ensemble roles throughout. |
